Francilia Agar Schofield Biography Born in Sineku, Dominica, Francilia started painting at the age of 12 and sold her first painting at 14. She won a local painting competition at 16 and was fortunate to have her first solo art exhibition in 1999. She enjoys painting the contrasting desert scenes of Arizona and the lush vegetation of the Caribbean.This new exhibition “I am Kalinago” is to celebrate her Kalinago heritage and the beauty of Dominica. She is very grateful to both her family in the Kalinago Territory, and parents Carmel and Antony who adopted her at the age of 2. Francilia has two kids, Michael and Jasmine Schofield who just represented Dominica in the Paris Olympics 2024 in swimming.She had the honor of being the first Kalinago Carnival Queen in 1991, and represented Dominica swimming in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Francilia then pursued her bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Ottawa, Canada and taught piano and accompanied and conducted various choirs. She worked as the organist at the Sierra Vista Lutheran Church for 9 years, and still volunteers as accompanist with the Sierra Vista Community Chorus.
