Betsy Ore Glass became an artist after a 30-year career in advertisingand broadcasting in Virginia. Enjoying contributing as a freelancephotographer for several newspapers on the Outer Banks of NorthCarolina, she renewed her love of nature. Taking those photos andwriting about them became a weekly newspaper and internet columnnamed, “Reflections by the Sea.” Delving deeper, she used herphotography as references for her painting. Preferring pastel as hermedium of choice, her work is in the home of many collectors and isshown in many art venues. Her first book titled “Reflections by the Sea”was released in April 2022 and her second book “Christmas Traditions”was released in November 2022. Artist Statement: Growing up in Virginia Beach, VA I spent much of my time with myfamily at the ocean or on the Chesapeake Bay. As a youngster wealso vacationed on North Carolina’s Outer Banks every year. Enjoyingsummers of fun, shelling, waves, catching lightning bugs andwatching for shooting stars, it all captured my heart. I equated thebeach with joy. I have always lived by the water and moving toFlorida a decade ago continues to be exciting. While I miss thebeaches of the east coast, I have embraced the Gulf waters for theircolor, the climate and the abundance of shells that are gifted to thebeachgoer daily. My paintings originated as I began writing andphotographing the beach. The photos were so interesting, Iattempted to paint them and in the last few years I found my placewith pastels. My subjects are all things coastal, but I do love theoccasional portrait. Whether it is art, photography or the writtenword, the goal of my work is to bring joy, love, and God’s light to theviewer.
