Calling Boston home for fifteen years, Dmitri recently relocated back to Denver. Often described as a colorist, his abstract work is not designed to offer an obvious answer, instead it is intended to elicit an emotional response. It includes you, it makes you ponder and discover something new or maybe even hidden within yourself Having a creative and artistic family has been an indispensable influence. My mother was a stage actress, I spent many a night in the theater in my youth; it was my babysitter. My father, a painter, had studied under Hans Hoffmann. Hans readily shared his insights and processes with my dad; and in turn, he passed them down to me. My artistic philosophy was born from this upbringing: In short, it is my experiences, discussions, relationships and life itself is where art begins to take shape for me. This is precisely what aides in my pursuit of new ideas for work that eventually makes it way to the canvas. As for the act of painting, the challenge of creating color combinations is at the forefront of my process; however, creating an approachable and cohesive painting, a satisfying and inspiring endeavor, is what drives me!
