Bruce was born and raised in Overland Park, Kansas, and graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Zoology. Though his early career was rooted in science, his passion for art took shape during his time in Los Angeles and Boston, where he began experimenting with mixed media collage. Entirely self-taught, Bruce’s work is grounded in a fascination with assembling everyday imagery into new and unexpected compositions. His first sale came in 1997, after which he continued refining his craft through small shows and collaborations with local galleries. After moving back to Kansas City in 2001 and focusing on his career as a chemist, Bruce’s art practice slowed down. However, in recent years a renewed creative drive reemerged, spurred in part by the pandemic. His work, now fully reignited, captures fragments of the visual culture that constantly surrounds us—rearranging them into fresh, thought-provoking forms. Bruce invites viewers to engage with his layered compositions, exploring the textures and interplays of imagery that reflect the fleeting nature of modern life, now transformed into lasting, meaningful art.
