If one word could describe Bren Corn’s work, it would be color. Her paintings are bold and vibrant, exploding with energy and life. “I love to get commissions of cities!” Her study of architecture in 1991, at the University of Colorado in Boulder, influenced this direction and has become a passion. Bren was so intrigued with this path that it inspires her work today with the compilations of the beautiful mountain town of Crested Butte and the wildlife that surrounds it. “I like utilizing modern architectural elements, interrupting the flow of line for a seamless transition into something unexpected, making it complex. Placing a door that you’ve seen on one building on another, changing a sign, a light, a brick, a sidewalk, a fence, a window, the possibilities are endless!” Corn is driven by different components and moods abstracting from life and the environment. Her inspiration comes from the masters in their fields of study: in architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright, and in painting, Picasso. Both artists have greatly influenced her work. Originally born in Arizona to an Italian mother and a German father, Bren reflects an American spirit while continually tapping into those European roots. Corn came to Gunnison over 30 years ago to study art and received a degree from Western State College, graduating summa cum laude in 2000 with a BFA in the arts. After raising three children, Bren remains in the Gunnison Valley, where her kids still reside, and has one grandchild. She is a professional painter with a studio of artwork in Gunnison. You can see more of her work at www.brencorn.com.
