Birgitta Strobel is a Norwegian artist known for her vibrant, large-scale abstract paintings that explore the interplay of light and color. Born in Asker, Norway, to a Danish mother and German father, she grew up in a culturally rich environment immersed in fine arts and classical music, which greatly influenced her creative path. As someone with synesthesia—a condition where one sensory experience involuntarily triggers another—Birgitta experiences music as a vivid array of colors and shapes, which she translates onto the canvas. Her work is distinguished by the use of iridescent and metallic paints, creating compositions that transform under different lighting conditions. Inspired by the unique light of coastal landscapes in the South of France and Los Angeles, her paintings evoke emotions of wonder, serenity, and movement. Collectors often describe her pieces as appearing to be “several paintings in one” due to their ever-changing nature. In addition to her acrylic paintings, Birgitta enjoys capturing scenes with watercolors during her travels, finding the creative process meditative. Despite her professional background as a yoga instructor in Norway, Paris, Malta, and Los Angeles, she finds true peace in the quiet moments of painting, where her synesthetic experiences come to life.
