Alex Kuznetsov (b. 1978) is an abstract artist based in Lisbon, Portugal, originally from Minsk, Belarus. After initially pursuing a career in graphic design, he discovered spray paint in 1997, which led him into the world of street art and graOiti under various aliases, such as Liquid and Ners. His graOiti crew, TRUE STILO, became widely recognized across Europe and post-Soviet territories for their dynamic and bold graOiti and street art.In 2010, a visit to a Hong Kong gallery and a significant personal experience prompted him to shift his focus towards Abstract Expressionism. This transition marked a profound change in his artistic approach, where he began exploring the emotional and meditative power of pure color. Kuznetsov has since collaborated with major brands and institutions, including Vogue, Adidas, and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. His solo exhibitions have been showcased in galleries worldwide, including in Moscow, Paris, Geneva, and Barcelona.Kuznetsov’s abstract works are characterized by their bold, sweeping gestures and a deep engagement with the process of painting. Drawing inspiration from artists like Gerhard Richter and Barnett Newman, he has developed a unique style that emphasizes the fluidity and movement of color. His use of giant aluminum rulers to apply acrylics imbues each stroke with a sense of deliberate force, transforming the act of painting into a meditative ritual. His artworks often suggest urban landscapes or futuristic forms, yet they transcend literal interpretation, allowing the material itself to become the subject. Through this process-led approach, Kuznetsov explores themes of control, spontaneity, and the tension between presence and memory, inviting viewers to connect with the work on a profound and transformative level.
