ARTIST STATEMENT: “My passion is painting. It’s in my DNA. The process of painting, defining and redefining my voice on the canvas has been an intuitive and authentic journey for 35 years working professionally as an artist… and counting. Direct observation of everyday life and a simple awareness of the world around me fuel ideas that “poof” into my head and then translate to the canvas. Inspiration and energy and friendship are endless and for this I am grateful. Whether the art is a loose representation of an actual object or an idea that connects with the soul…color, form, mood, light, music, conversation, dreams and travel… all are an integral part of the dialogue with my paints and the canvas. I am a firm believer that in order to be a successful abstract painter, one must have the underlying draftsmanship of drawing. Concepts are a fine balance of push and pull, color and light, exploration and letting go of fear and often times putting myself out of my comfort zone as a mode of impulsive growth. We cannot be anyone other than who we are and God is always ever present & a vast amount of spirit guides.” - Amy Dixon BIOGRAPHY: Amy Dixon is an artist whose paintings radiate energy, joy, and spontaneity. Her bold brushwork, rich textures, and vibrant palette reflect her deep love for life and creativity. Dixon’s canvases are alive with movement, layered with color that is sometimes opaque, sometimes translucent, and always expressive. Dixon approaches a painting as she does life—intuitively, with free expression. She believes that “anything is possible if the art spirit is right.” Inspiration comes from direct observation of the world around her and a keen understanding of what works on canvas. She draws from color, form, mood, light, music, conversation, and dreams to create pieces that are immediate, emotive, and deeply personal. Her work explores harmony and chaos, peace and passion, laughter and contemplation—all the complexities of life translated into paint. A student of Newcomb College at Tulane University, Dixon further honed her artistic voice through post-graduate study in Florence, Italy, and workshops with renowned artists Wolf Kahn and Kim English. She describes her artistic process as a continuous conversation with color, often punctuated by what she calls “dump color”—a surprising, bold contrast that enlivens her compositions. Her love of travel and sense of adventure fuel her creativity, with places like Venice inspiring her deeply: “The whole city seems to be moored on a sea of timeless beauty.” Whether revisiting familiar subjects or exploring new inspirations, Dixon’s art is an ongoing celebration of life. Born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana, Dixon now lives in Denver with her family (including a very spoiled Golden Retriever), where she continues to create paintings that embody her infectious joie de vivre and passion for artistic expression.
