Born in 1977 near Pittsburgh, PA, Mike Egan discovered art as a means of self-expression during childhood, tracing cartoons and album covers. After pursuing a Fine Arts degree at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where printmaking became a focus. Egan shifted to painting due to a lack of printmaking supplies post-graduation. Seeking a stable career with limited schooling, he became a licensed funeral director and embalmer, a profession that profoundly influenced his artistic voice. While working in the funeral industry, Egan honed a unique style that incorporates bold lines and dark imagery, drawing on influences from traditional tattoo art and experiences with life and death. The breakthrough came in 2006 with a gallery show in Pittsburgh, where he sold several pieces, solidifying a commitment to a full-time art career. Since then, Egan has exhibited internationally, expanding into various mediums such as toy design, poster creation, and ceramics, while continuously challenging himself to innovate and grow as an artist.
