Kelly Berg (b. 1986 in Concord, Massachusetts; raised just outside Minneapolis, Minnesota) is a Los Angeles–based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the sublime power of geological phenomena—volcanoes, fault lines, tectonic shifts—through richly textured paintings, sculptural media, and outdoor interventions. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008, where she honed her skills in drawing, painting, and mixed media.Driven by a lifelong fascination with earth science and natural landscapes—sparked by childhood road trips to national parks and early exposure to mineralogy—Berg translates seismic grandeur into intense, layered compositions. Her art often incorporates impasto acrylic, metallic pigments, mirrored plexiglass and sculptural mesh to evoke both destructive force and regenerative beauty. The pyramid and obelisk forms that recur in her practice symbolize humanity’s attempt to interpret—and visually stabilize—the volatile earth beneath our feet. Mentored in mindset if not style by her artist husband, she immerses herself in site-based explorations, traveling to eruptions at Kīlauea, Vesuvius, Joshua Tree and Mono Lake, experiences that feed directly into her studio works.Her achievements include artist residencies at Art 1307 in Naples (2019) and Boxo Projects in Joshua Tree (2021), as well as being the featured outdoor artist in Laguna Art Museum’s “Art & Nature” festival (2022).
