Born in Gloversville, New York, a town once central to the American glove-making industry. The decaying factories and industrial remnants, set against the natural beauty of the Adirondack foothills, left a lasting impression on Albert Dicruttalo. The contrast between manmade structure and organic form continues to inform his aesthetic and conceptual approach to sculpture. As a teenager working in a leather mill, he became fascinated with the mechanical rhythms of tanning drums and embossing machines. At the same time, he was drawn to the flowing forms of the lakes, streams, and mountains where he spent much of his free time. This duality between industry and nature evolved into a modernist sensibility rooted in both mechanical structure and organic presence. Dicruttalo studied fine art at Ithaca College, focusing on sculpture. In the early 1990s, he began working with computer-aided design (CAD) while employed at Cornell University’s Program of Computer Graphics. This led to an apprenticeship with Oakland sculptor Bruce Beasley, a pioneer in fusing digital technology with large-scale sculpture. Dicruttalo's sculptures merge geometric abstraction with organic influence, often using stainless steel and bronze to explore the tension between mass and movement, structure and nature. My work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and public spaces across the United States and internationally.
