Kenny Jensen is a multidisciplinary artist and self-proclaimed “amateur naturalist” whose immersive oil paintings bridge the seen and the unseen in nature. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Jensen draws from decades of ecological exploration, found-object work, and multimedia practice to create works that feel both grounded and ethereal.Jensen’s visual language is shaped by years spent living in close contact with nature, deep dives into ecological and philosophical texts, and artistic influences ranging from surrealists like Max Ernst to filmmakers like Tarkovsky. His studio practice is equally contemplative and research-driven, echoing the rhythms of the natural world he seeks to honor. With over two decades of experience in the Tampa Bay arts community, Jensen has exhibited widely across the Southeast and beyond. His work has been featured in climate-focused exhibitions, private and public collections, and multiple grants and residencies. When he’s not painting, he’s building a future in The Floating Woods, a rural Florida homestead and future artist residency rooted in forest stewardship and slow living.Jensen’s paintings at Chandler Art Gallery offer a space for pause—a moment to reconnect with the wildness that still exists, if only we remember to look for it.
