Steve Hammond creates scratchboard art which is among the largest and most detailed in the world. Scratchboard art is produced using a white board that is covered with black ink. Artists use a small scratch tool or knife to etch into it, revealing the white underneath, as if drawing in reverse. Steve was born and raised in Colorado and earned his degree in Advertising and Design from the Colorado Institute of Art. He is a Partner and the Creative Director at H2R (Harshman, Hammond, and Rice), a full-service, cutting-edge marketing & advertising agency headquartered in Colorado, with marketing offices in Washington, Florida and Oklahoma. Unleashing the power of black-and-white artistry, Steve is a proud Signature Scratchboard Artist (SSA), with the renowned International Society of Scratchboard Artists, on whose board he also serves. He serves as well on the board of the Peninsula Art League in Washington State. With each scratchboard stroke, Steve breathes life into intricate details and captures the essence of people and animals in a way that mesmerizes the viewer. His journey as an artist has been fueled by passion, dedication, and an unwavering pursuit of perfection. With a scratchboard as his canvas and a sharp tool as his instrument, he creates pieces that transcend boundaries and invite deep reflection. His art explores challenging subject matter, delving into the complexities of human emotion and the untamed beauty of wildlife. Through his work, he strives to evoke powerful emotions and leave a lasting impression. The recognition he has received as an award-winning artist has been humbling, and stands as a testament to his commitment to excellence and innovation in this captivating medium. Barlow Gallery is proud to feature Steve, who currently lives in the Pacific Northwest.
