Brainstorm. Sketch. Paint. Eat. Sleep…Rinse and Repeat! Stephanie Hansen’s creative journey began in the fast-paced realm of corporate graphic design in the early 2000s. While the deadlines sharpened her eye for composition, they could not quiet a restless urge to work with her hands. She experimented widely—dabbling in a host of mediums, and even wearable art—before discovering that large-scale painting gave her the most direct, expressive voice. Today, from her studio in St. Augustine, Florida, she fuses those early explorations into layered works that pay homage to Pop Art’s bold palettes while embracing the tactile surprises of mixed media.
A self-taught artist, Hansen traces the spark of her practice back to the childhood moment she pried open a Crayola “Box of 64 Colors.” That kaleidoscope imprinted a lifelong fascination with hue, light, and contrast. Her current pieces begin with bold acrylic “brushless” images; then pours, stencils, inks, Austrian crystals and found ephemera are bound to the surface. Nothing is off-limits: vintage handwritten French parchment, preserved butterflies, crystals, and Diamond Dust all vie for attention, creating a visual rhythm that embrace pop culture’s bright pulse.
Hansen’s work has been showcased in galleries and private exhibitions across Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., Northeast Florida, and Savannah, Georgia. Collectors from Palm Beach to Nashville prize her confident color stories and playful iconography, often citing the sense of optimism that radiates from each piece. Now painting full-time, she balances rigorous studio hours with family life—shared with her husband, two young-adult children, and Hemingway, their ever-curious Bull Terrier.
