Raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland not far from the Chesapeake Bay, I loved the water, the farmlands and the familiarity of a small town. My current subjects reflect that calmness, that peace. Playing with color, capturing the light, and keeping it simple, I want to create paintings that are fun. Ideally the viewer needs to take a second look. Vibrant color excites me and I admit I have fun getting it on the canvas. Who would have guessed that my favorite room in my house would be the laundry room, aka art studio? Surrounded by all the art mayhem, I love the process of painting: thoughtful and precise if I am concentrating, surprising and abstract if I am not. To be present in the moment, what joy. Twenty years ago I took a painting class with my teenage son and loved it. Thinking a photography course would help me to become a better painter, I found instead that I loved being behind the lens. Now with brush in hand I am lucky to have a seventeen year supply of images.
