Stephen Strickland’s paintings are vibrant abstractions that show connections between the gatherings of people to the landscape. While hints of the human form remain visible, heads, arms, and legs seem poised to dissolve into pure gesture. The bold outlines of his earlier figurative pieces have transformed into energetic lines and marks that pulsate with alternating cool and warm hues. The resulting compositions oscillate between a raw, primitive energy and a lively, musical exuberance. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Strickland resides in Daphne, Alabama, with his wife and children. He earned both his BFA and MFA from the University of Southern Mississippi and currently teaches at Coastal Alabama Community College. His award-winning paintings are included in numerous corporate and private collections across the globe.
