Jennifer Cavan is a Santa Fe-based artist working in oil pastels. Using photographs, sketches and etched memories, Cavan creates bold, colorful art that evokes both connection to the landscape of New Mexico and a sense of timelessness. Cavan has been exhibiting and selling her art for the last 20 years through art shows, galleries and museum shows. Combining her love of history and culture with her passion for the New Mexico landscape and simple architecture, Jennifer Cavan creates art that reflects the timelessness of that subject matter. She is fascinated by New Mexico’s Spanish Colonial past and the way it merges into and influences the present. Relying on photographs, sketches, and memories of places she has found along the back roads of the American West, Cavan uses vibrant, saturated colors, bold compositions and slightly altered perspectives to present, rather than represent, this special place. Her “rose-colored glasses” interpret the scenes with heightened color. Jennifer Cavan's is a contemporary depiction of an ageless place.
