Ginger Oppenheimer finds the extraordinary inside the fence down the street, the shadow on a Paris wall, the last ring left by a coffee cup. Thirty years as a science and medical editor trained her eye to notice what others edit out— and her iPhone trained it to stop and frame it before its gone. The result is a practice that turns the overlooked into the inevitable. Using an array of photography apps alongside the iPhone’s native camera, she creates imagery where pure photography meets art. Her compositions emphasize simplicity and minimalism, often focusing on pattern, shadow, color blocks, and juxtaposition of form, with an eye toward what is left out as much as what is included. With a career spanning over 30 years as a science, technology, and medical editor, Ginger’s meticulous sense of order informs her photographic style. She draws inspiration from everything—whether a fence down the street, Parisian architecture, or the ever-changing interplay of light and time. For Ginger, the process of refining and framing everyday sights through iPhoneography feels akin to alchemy, transforming the ordinary into extraordinary. Based in Bellingham, Washington, Ginger produces abstract works on stretched canvas and thematic studies, including Mexico, the Oregon Coast, San Francisco, and her unique series of latte remains reimagined as planetary forms on wood panels. Her work has been featured on greeting cards, annual desk calendars, and in the historic Hotel Leo in Bellingham. Represented by Illumine Gallery. Please inquire for commissions and shipping options.
