FloridaSelf-Taught Julie Latayan has been an award-winning artist for over 35 years. She has worked as a high school art teacher, displayed work in art shows nationwide, painted public murals, and owned her own public studio where she taught painting and sold work. Currently, she teaches privately in her home studio, and travels to host ceramic workshops. While originally known for her paintings in acrylic, Julie is always expanding her repertoire and is currently inspired by sculpting. Her work is influenced by the French impressionists, particularly their use of color when depicting shapes and figures. I was born this way! I grew up knowing I was an artist I never had a doubt. The need of making, building, and creating are the same to me as the need for food and shelter. Without them, I would not make it in this world. I have a gift to create and have always stayed true to myself. We all have to be many things in this lifetime and had many jobs but one title I have always kept is Artist.
