Jenny Flexner Reinhardt's soft sculptures are crafted from plastic and collaged materials. The plastic embodies both disposability and resilience, sagging over time like human bodies. Her process begins with instinctive splatters of paint, glue, and glitter, allowing her to relinquish control and freely explore color. Often, she finds herself fetishizing color, pushing it to overwhelmingly bright extremes. She integrates printed materials referencing retro-sexist ads, cultural pathos, and metaphysical symbols, manipulating them into seemingly random combinations. By scraping openings with her fingers, she creates spaces for paint to break through, leaving intentional marks. A key aspect of her process is the continual removal of images she cherishes. These works ultimately invite viewers to consider their own interpretations, navigating themes of creation, pleasure, discomfort, and the erasure of moments in time. Jenny Flexner Reinhardt is a multidisciplinary artist, exploring a range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed-media. Her art delves into the complexities of modern culture, feminism, motherhood and codependency, reflecting on the psychological gymnastics required to navigate contemporary society. Jenny’s work intertwines personal experience, historical philosophies, literary references, political commentary, and musings of what may exist on a larger metaphysical level. Jenny spent her formative years in Washington DC. She earned BA in English Literature from the University of Michigan followed by an MFA, Cum Laude at The New York Academy of Art. After teaching studio art and Art History early in her career, Jenny dedicated herself raising three daughters. Now, Jenny works fulltime in her studio, located in the Valley Arts District in Orange, New Jersey.
