Romeo Robinson's artistic journey began in New York City at the Germaine School of Photography in the late 1970s. Upon moving to Houston in 1980, he continued art studies at San Jacinto College before moving to the MFAH Glassell School of Art in 2019 where he completed the Block Program. His large pieces are mixed media using acrylic, charcoal, pastel, and collage. In his own words, Robinson says, "I have coined the phrase 'controlled chaos' to describe my process. I define this as the manipulation of color, images, words, and phrases in a random manner, in an effort to create a narrative."During his career, Robinson's paintings have been shown at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the Houston Museum of African American Culture, San Jacinto College Gallery and College Library, numerous Visual Arts Alliance exhibitions, the Houston City Wide African American Artists Exhibition, and the Houston Christ Church Cathedral. ARTIST STATEMENT"I am deeply fascinated by the human psyche and the intricate ways in which we express our emotions and navigate the complexities of life's journey. My work is a tribute to the human condition, exploring the breadth and depth of our emotions, problems, thoughts, and feelings. I believe that our facial expressions are profound narratives, revealing our true selves even when words fail us. The topics that resonate with me are often drawn from current events and societal dynamics-racism, discrimination, immigration, and the experience of existing in today's complex world. Conversations with friends and family, as well as my own personal reflections, serve as a rich source of subject matter. It is my own emotional response to these issues that draws me to particular scenes, sparking a desire to capture the essence of the moment on canvas. People are the heart of my inspiration. It is through their stories, their struggles, and their triumphs that I find fertile ground for my creations. As I manipulate the use of acrylics, charcoal, oil stick, and collage, I strive to unveil the hidden depths of emotion conveyed through the eyes-where true feelings spring forth. "
