This early triumph sparked a lifelong pursuit of artistic expression, culminating in a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia. Her career initially thrived in the commercial market, where she developed brands, websites, and catalogs for national companies. Julie’s expertise found its true calling with luxury and edgy brands across fashion, home, and hospitality decor. Renowned for her sharp insight into trends and pop culture, she emerged as a leading Atlanta-based creative, owning and managing photography and creative agencies for over four decades. Her passion for sophisticated, luxurious design inspired the name of her latest agency, Fancy. In spring 2020, Julie launched Fancy The Collection, a curated portfolio of trend-forward art spanning photography, oil paintings, and digital works. Her creations have garnered accolades, earning placements in gallery exhibitions and museum shows. Each piece embodies her ability to transform spaces and ignite conversation. My work with luxury and edgy brands in fashion, home, and hospitality decor inspired a renewed art focus in spring 2020, which has become a collection of trend-forward statement pieces that transform spaces. Pieces are often oversized and span digital works, oil paintings, and photography. My digital art blends old-world opulence with contemporary elements and wit, crafting vibrant portraits that hint at untold stories. Embracing maximalism, I layer rich colors, textures, intricate details, and playful elements to create works that feel both timeless and modern. I use digital tools like Photoshop to strategically experiment with form and texture, pushing boundaries to produce art that captivates and may invoke a few laughs. *No AI was used in the making of this digital art* The abstract expressionistic oil paintings I create embody what I call “perfect imperfection,” a style deeply inspired by the raw beauty of rusted metals, peeling paint, and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which celebrates the beauty of the transient and imperfect. These works are characterized by heavily layered compositions where under layers subtly peek through the surface, creating a sense of depth, history, and organic decay. Each piece is built through intuitive yet deliberate applications of oil paint with thick textured strokes and scraped-back sections that reveal glimpses of earlier layers, mimicking the weathered patinas of aged surfaces. The interplay of colors—earthy oxides, muted greens, and faded blues—evokes the corrosion and erosion found in nature and aged structures. Painted on paneled board, these works feature thick sides that I paint, extending the composition around the edges. This eliminates the need for framing and keeps it engaging from all angles. The tactile surface quality invites closer inspection, revealing tension between creation and disintegration. Through this process, I aim to capture the beauty of imperfection, transforming chaos into harmonious, evocative art that resonates with emotional and visual complexity. Photography is another artistic passion and celebrates the intricate beauty of nature, focusing on subjects like bird’s nests, flowers, feathers, and mushrooms. Guided by a fascination with texture, color, and light, I celebrate the extraordinary in the everyday, creating images that are poetic and grounded. Working primarily in my studio, I stage compositions, bringing the outdoors in to control every element. Inspired by classic lighting, while employing focus stacking to achieve absolute crispness, I often blend multiple shots into one. In closing, art is an extension of my lifelong dialogue with creativity, with escaping the everyday, and with expression that needs no words. It is my way of challenging the ordinary and celebrating the extraordinary of this life ... and hoping to share a piece each viewer that passes by.
