Herbert Creecy was born in 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia and raised in the Buckhead area of Atlanta,Georgia. He attended local public schools, the University of Alabama, and then the Atlanta Collegeof Art, where he graduated in 1964.Creecy's talent was recognized early in his career. He was given a one-man show at the HighMuseum of Art in Atlanta prior to graduating from art school, and numerous solo museum showsfollowed over the years. Other highlights include exhibitions throughout the Southeast, andselection of his works for the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art in NewYork, the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington, D.C., the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, theIndianapolis Museum of Art in Indianapolis, and many other fine public and private collections.An abstractionist who never ceased experimenting with both paint and process, Creecy receivednumerous awards and honors throughout his forty years of painting, drawing, sculpting andteaching.Herbert Creecy lived and worked in Barnesville, Georgia for the last 24 years of his life. He died inJune 2003, leaving a legacy of literally thousands of paintings, drawings and other works.
