Arc Sims balances art and analytics to capture the majesty of both natural and man-made structures. Born in Bangkok, Thailand, the name “Arc” was originally a nickname originating from the profession of his birth father, an architect. At 10 years old, he moved to the US to live with his aunt and uncle, who eventually adopted him. Coincidentally, his adopted father was also an architect. Arc grew up in a home environment surrounded by visual art and showed an aptitude for drawing and drafting, and he grew up with intentions of becoming an architect. He spent multiple school breaks during his teen years working as a drafter, creating construction drawings at Walt Disney Imagineering. However, during undergraduate studies, he decided to leverage the analytical part of his brain and obtained a degree in Civil Engineering instead. The decision to pursue engineering would prove to be the foundation for his professional successes, eventually leading to senior supply chain management and program management roles for tech companies including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Apple. Arc picked up photography as an artistic hobby - a way to balance his analytical career. Arc’s move to Western Washington in the late 90s sparked his love for the outdoors. Taking photos during those adventures became a source of joy and fulfillment. As an avid hiker and backpacker, he seeks to capture the beauty that he sees in the outdoors. Many of the scenes he photographs are from difficult to reach places throughout the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. In his photos, he aims to encapsulate both the visual and emotional feelings he experienced in that place and moment in time. In recent years, his love of photography expanded beyond wilderness landscape images to include cityscapes and macro images during travel. Barlow Gallery is proud to feature a collection of marvelous images from Arc Sims. To shop for prints of Arc's photography in various sizes and materials, click HERE.
