[FR] Née au Liban, élevée en Arabie saoudite et adoptée par Montréal, Hoda Adra crée au croisement entre l’écriture, le poème, le dessin, et la scène. Sa pratique s’ancre dans l’oralité comme espace de résistance. Ses œuvres investiguent l’apartheid du genre, l’histoire orale avortée, et l’emprise des gouvernements sur nos corps. S’inspirant de l’enfance, du surréalisme et de la physique quantique, Hoda privilégie le lo-fi pour créer urgemment. Pour rappeler que — le temps d’une histoire (et depuis la nuit des temps) — nos cœurs constellés deviennent des espaces de réimagination collective. Depuis 2019, tissant des résidences au Banff Centre Spoken Word Programme, au MAI et au Théâtre Prospero, Hoda crée son solo L’Histoire de comment je me suis séparée en deux avec le soutien de LA SERRE — arts vivants et du CEAD. Ses poèmes et ses traductions sont parus dans des revues et des anthologies dont Le Merle, El Ghourabaa, Al Hayya, Diverses Syllabes, Estuaire, Another Room to Live in, Voices of the Nakba. Sa voix s’est fait entendre au Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, au Festival international de Littérature, au Festival du Jamais Lu, et dans un lointain passé, elle a remporté la médaille au Grand Slam. Elle a reçu en mai dernier le prix Joseph-S.-Stauffer, remis par le Conseil des arts du Canada à des artistes au talent prometteur. [EN] Born in Lebanon, raised in Saudi Arabia, and now calling Montreal home, Hoda Adra creates at the crossroads of writing, poetry, drawing, and performance. Her work is deeply rooted in orality as a form of resistance. She explores themes such as gender apartheid, the silenced histories of oral traditions, and the control that governments exert over our bodies. Drawing inspiration from childhood, surrealism, and quantum physics, Hoda embraces a lo-fi aesthetic to convey a sense of urgency in her work. Through her art, she invites us to remember that—if only for the span of a story, and since the dawn of time—our starry hearts become spaces for collective reimagination. Since 2019, Hoda Adra has been weaving together residencies at the Banff Centre Spoken Word Programme, MAI, and Théâtre Prospero. With support from LA SERRE—arts vivants and CEAD, she created her solo performance L’Histoire de comment je me suis séparée en deux. Her poetry and translations have been published in journals and anthologies such as Le Merle, El Ghourabaa, Al Hayya, Diverses Syllabes, Estuaire, Another Room to Live in, and Voices of the Nakba. Hoda’s voice has resonated at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word, the Festival international de Littérature, the Jamais Lu Festival, and in a past life, she won the medal at the Grand Slam. Most recently, she was awarded the Joseph-S.-Stauffer Prize by the Canada Council for the Arts, recognizing her as an artist of promising talent.
