MERRILY STRICKLAND As an artist, I work primarily with the representation of figures and landscape, often imbuing my art with personal significance or choosing to depict moments that allude to a greater story. Images of people and places of beauty, mystery, or even poignant sadness call to me, begging not to be forgotten. And so I try to capture the moments that want to be remembered. An avid travel enthusiast, I especially love to create bright, vivid scenes with a multicultural flair. My artwork not only reproduces figures and locations, however, but also provides viewers with a visual feast of rich color and detail. My work is represented in both residential and corporate collections, and my art may be seen hanging as near as the walls of my alma mater, Meredith College, to collections in Italy, Switzerland, and Ireland. I also gladly work on commission and am happy to create portraits of people, pets, and special places. Underlying everything that I do, including my art, is my relationship with Jesus Christ. In Psalm 27:4, David says, “This is what I seek…to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” My art is a response to God’s beauty; it is a form of creative worship. My art celebrates the people and places of the Earth that God created, and I hope that each piece reflects, at least in some small measure, His beauty.
