ARTIST STATEMENT "My paintings are inspired by the aesthetics of the Industrial Revolution, Victorian grandeur, the paintings by the great postwar abstract painters and by the desire to combine images and objects in unexpected way. My technique relays heavily on the layering of various acrylic media, fabric and image. I am always looking for new ways to expand the dynamics of my paintings; whether that is achieved by layering, creating texture or manipulating images, I am focused on creating striking compositions which reflects a certain balance between a contemporary and vintage aesthetic." BIOGRAPHY Ryan Slagle is an emerging North Carolina artist who works primarily with acrylics and incorporates images, fabrics and objects into his paintings. Originally from Commack, New York, Ryan grew up in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina. He attended North Carolina State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Art Studies. Ryan currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina where he is also actively involved in the local music scene as both a performer and producer.
