Artist Statement My paintings are a study in contrasting elements, balancing abstract, geometricpatterns with the soft, organic forms of nature. I'm captivated by the way lightfilters through a canopy of leaves, illuminating intricate details and creatingfleeting moments of intimacy and connection.My creative process is both organic and controlled. Using traditional Chinesecalligraphy brushes, I deliberately apply gold size, leveraging the pressure andweight of the brush to create unique, organic forms. The final shimmering designis a surprising reveal, only unveiled after the gold leaf is applied and the excessremoved. I embrace the inherent imperfections of this handcrafted process,which serve as a reminder that each piece is unique and not machine-perfect.Once the leaf is sealed, I begin painting the hummingbirds in oils. This layeredapproach allows the final pieces to feel both highly rendered and painterly,achieving my intention for the birds to appear naturally nestled among thegold leaves. Through my work, I invite the viewer to reflect on what it means tobe truly present, creating a shared space to project their own experiences ontothe subjects.
