Born in Grimsby in 1957, Michael Weeden's artistic journey began early. From the age of ten, he developed a passion for painting and drawing, honing his skills through self-study and art lessons at Heckmondwike Grammar School in Yorkshire. While encouraged to pursue formal art training, Michael chose a different path, serving in the Royal Navy and establishing a career as an electrician. Despite his professional pursuits, Michael's passion for art remained. He began exhibiting his work at various venues, including the West Yorkshire Playhouse, showcasing his growing talent. In 2007, a significant life change occurred: Michael and his wife Jane relocated to Caithness in Scotland, where they found a renewed source of artistic inspiration. Since 2008, Michael has actively exhibited his work in Caithness, achieving considerable success. In 2011, he joined the esteemed Society of Scottish Artists, a testament to his growing recognition. Michael's artistic influences are diverse, drawing inspiration from figures like Keith Vaughan, as well as artists who influenced Vaughan, such as Cézanne and Palmer. He also finds inspiration in the work of Cornish painters Peter Lanyon and Patrick Heron.
