Jack Savitsky (1910-1991) was a self-taught artist hailing from Lansford, Pennsylvania. From a young age, he found solace and expression through drawing, even utilizing unconventional surfaces like mine walls. Skilled in oil paint and commercial enamels, Savitsky captured the essence of houses and coal trains on various materials, including filter boards, sheet rock, plywood, beer trays, and steel drum sections. Despite enduring multiple health challenges such as emphysema, black lung, diabetes, arthritis, and prostate cancer, Savitsky's vibrant spirit shone through his art. His colorful and vivid depictions of life have graced galleries and museums nationwide, earning recognition as a form of "primitive pop" by art critics and reviewers. Savitsky's legacy as a talented and resilient artist continues to inspire and captivate audiences with his unique vision of the world.
