Pierre Joseph Valcin (1925 – 2000), a Haitian artist, was born in Port-au-Prince, raised by the mother of his half-brother and fellow painter, Gerard Valcin. Before discovering art in the 1960s, Valcin worked in various trades, including mechanics, plumbing, and stone masonry. His artistic journey began under Gerard's tutelage, and he became affiliated with the Centre D’art in 1966. His distinct style, characterized by whimsical elements and pronounced disproportionality, mirrored a child's perspective. Until the mid-1970s, Valcin's art was signed as “Pierre Joseph.”
