Born in Terrier Rouge, Haiti, in 1950, Ernst Prophete found himself in the heart of Haitian creativity after his family's move to Cap Haitian. Here, he was enveloped in the vibrant artistic atmosphere created by the esteemed Obin family, which served to nurture his own budding artistic passion. In the 1960s, Prophete's journey took a decisive turn. He relocated to Port-au-Prince and joined the Centre D'Art, a renowned institution for artistic development. This move signified his official initiation into the realm of professional painting, providing him with the environment to refine his craft and explore his creative vision further. Over time, Prophete's distinctive artistic voice began to emerge, marked by his personal experiences and the rich cultural heritage of his homeland.
