Curt Whiticar (1911-2017), a fisherman and boat builder hailing from Stuart, Florida, was a self-taught artist. His painting journey began with boat lettering and local signage, often incorporating scenic elements. Although a house fire in 1950 destroyed his early works, Whiticar returned to painting full-time in his retirement in 1986. During the following 31 years, he created almost 2,000 paintings, primarily utilizing oil as his preferred medium. His artwork frequently depicted the beauty of Florida through vibrant landscapes, seascapes, and local historical scenes. Showcasing his craftsman's spirit, Whiticar handcrafted his canvases and frames. His work is a testament to his love for his native Florida and his dedication to his craft.
