Evelyn Tovar (Colombia, 1985) Is a visual artist and teacher at the Francisco José de Caldas District University. Her artistic practice centers on a process of exploring and understanding her environment, drawing from memory and the movement between intimate spaces, such as the home, and public spaces that shape our perception of the places we inhabit.Through the creation of images and objects, her work seeks to re-signify everyday situations, generating shifts in the way we see and recognize the familiar. This ongoing search to comprehend her immediate surroundings is at the heart of her most recent work.She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including: Black Boxes (Blackberries Are Red When They Are Green) at the Andrés Bello Convention Cultural Center, Bogotá (2007); Colsanitas Young Art Salon, Bogotá (2009 – honorable mention); Languages on Paper at The Museum Gallery, Bogotá (2014); The Art of the Word at Otro 360 Degrees Gallery, Bogotá (2014); Odeón Contemporary Art Fair, Bogotá (2014–2016); Off Axis at JustMad 6, Madrid (2015); Planting at Otro 360 Degrees Gallery, Bogotá (2015); First Permanent Exhibition Space for the Arts, Bogotá (2015); Imago Mundi by the Fondazione Giorgio Cini at the Venice Biennale, Italy (2015); and PARC International Art Fair, Lima, Peru (2016).
