Delcy Morelos is a Colombian visual artist who lives and works in Bogotá. Her art, which focuses on the human condition, is both conceptually and formally organic, often blending painting, sculpture, and installation. It explores themes of violence, fear, ethnic identity, and the connection between body and territory. Born in 1967 in Tierralta, Córdoba, a region deeply affected by armed conflict, violence has always been central to her work. Morelos uses organic materials and symbolic forms to question the causes of violence while expressing concern over its impact on individuals and society. For Morelos, the body is both a concept and a vessel for emotions, desires, and fears. Her art reflects this duality, combining natural materials and textures to represent the organic nature of the human body and our world. She addresses Colombia’s violent history and the complex relationship between its people and their land through her work.Morelos has exhibited her work both in Colombia and internationally, receiving numerous accolades throughout her career, including the First Prize at the Salón de Arte Joven in Cartagena (1988) and Bogotá (1994). In 2018, she was selected to create work for the X Luis Caballero Prize, a prestigious award in Bogotá. Her art reflects the territory itself—landscapes full of remnants, materials that speak, and spaces that pulse with life. In her pieces, Morelos blurs the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation, creating work that is as much about the journey through life as it is about the cycles of conflict, emotion, and transformation.
