Kristen Diederich (American b.1994-) Painter Kristen Diederich is an American painter and poet currently based in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. After completing a degree in literature at Portland State University, Diederich’s characteristic abstract painting style emerged during periods of time spent in coastal Maine, Oregon and Europe. She expresses her empathy for the natural world using varied textures, bold compositions and evocative palettes. Diederich’s paintings greet you chiefly as abstractions, but you may come to know them as abstract landscapes imbued with real and imaginary symbols that form their visual language, a language of repetition and cinematic depth of field. She has exhibited across Oregon, Maine and Los Angeles, during Frieze week with Lobster Club gallery and a solo show last November at Chefas Projects. "I learned at a young age that I have a different way of communicating. So much of this process is visually expressed through painting and making art or jotting down a line for a poem. This has been my greatest challenge and blessing. Keeping up this constant dialogue between my visual art and my writing practice has been paramount in my career."
