Laura Goodwin holds a BA in Ceramics, a MS in Art Education, and a MFA in Glass. While attending college, she studied in Perugia, Italy, which greatly influenced her interest in glass. She travels extensively, a passion that is reflected in her work. Goodwin’s glasswork showcases her love for shape, simplicity of form, and vibrant color, qualities that heighten the sensual nature of her organic creations, which are often inspired by the beauty of fruit. “I have been fortunate to study with some of the “greats”, the most notable, my first professor in clay, Paul Soldner. Later I studied glass with Craig Zweifel, Therman Statom, Ulrica Hydman Vallien, Italo Scanga, and Bill Boysen. Five of my teachers are gone, but never forgotten. Besides teaching me about aesthetics, Soldner emphasized self-sufficiency, independence, and resourcefulness, as well as so many other attributes. The year 2024 commemorates my fortieth year in glass.” Goodwin lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she runs the Nambe Glass Studio.
