Linda J. Beeman is an environmental artist, instructor and curator who works exclusively in the ancient art of mokuhanga - Japanese woodblock printmaking. She has lived in mid-Michigan all of her life. She attended the University of Kansas, where she studied Visual Art and Art History. She continued her studies at Dundas Valley School of Art in Ontario, Canada where she focused on printmaking. A self-taught mokuhanga artist, Linda was recognized by the Cultural Ministry of Japan and invited to be Artist in Residence at Mt. Fuji in 2012. Linda was selected 2019 Artist in Residence at Petrified Forest National Park, AZ. She has also been AiR at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. She is a multi-award winning artist and has exhibited widely in the U.S., Great Britain and Japan. Linda is one of approximately 100 professional mokuhanga artists in the world (outside of Japan) and one of a handful of mokuhanga instructors in the United States. Because of the rarity of mokuhanga instruction outside of Japan, Linda is sought after for workshops at universities, art schools, and privately, across the country, including Interlochen Center for the Arts (Michigan) and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art. Linda has traveled extensively in Japan and is the Vice President of the Michigan/Shiga (Japan) Sister State Board. She was President for the Sister State 50th Anniversary Goodwill Mission in 2017 which saw 50 Michigan residents travel to Shiga to engage in friendship diplomacy. She is also the founder and director of Art From the Lakes, a multi-year artist exchange program between Shiga, Japan and Michigan.
