Sandra Jo Hackbarth comes to art through clay. For years sanctuary meant mud. Conceptual art, design methods and generous mentors nudged her to redefine her relationship to making. Artist-in-Residence at 223 Canyon until April 30. Framed work, weavings and works in progress circle the studio tables. Favorite books and gifted materials overflow - sparking conversations geared to empower others to make things. Co-founder of Martinez Studio which produces weavings of her designs. Automatic drawing and accessible (mostly gifted) materials has made my studio practice a playful tool for living. Lately, confetti cut from my failures recharges the work with a toss.
