Lynn Rattray’s artistic journey is a testament to curiosity, resilience, and an unwavering passion for creative expression. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, she found early inspiration in art but pursued a career in education before fully embracing painting. With a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University and a Master’s in Counseling, Lynn dedicated much of her life to shaping young minds, eventually becoming a school principal. It was only upon retirement that she rekindled her love for art, taking private lessons and immersing herself in daily practice at her Ybor City studio on historic 7th Avenue. Nature serves as the primary muse for Lynn’s work, with organic forms, floral structures, and the movement of the sea influencing her creative process. Her series for Drew Marc Gallery delves into abstract florals, where bold colors, gestural brushwork, and layered textures evoke a sense of rhythm and harmony. Each piece is a dynamic interplay between spontaneity and control, allowing the viewer to uncover hidden narratives within the composition. Beyond the canvas, Lynn is deeply involved in the artistic community, having served as President of the North Tampa Arts League and actively engaging with various art organizations. Her work has been widely recognized, earning multiple Best in Show and First Place awards, along with a feature in an internationally circulated magazine. She first accepted gallery representation as a featured artist in Laguna Beach, California, and was later selected as a featured artist for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Artist Statement:"As a mixed-media artist, I find endless inspiration in nature’s organic forms—florals, seascapes, and textured landscapes that translate into my abstracted compositions. My process is physical and immersive, beginning with energetic mark-making in graphite or charcoal, followed by layers of expressive brushstrokes. I embrace unconventional tools, from radiator brushes to extended-handled paintbrushes, to introduce unpredictability into my work. Each piece is a balance between control and surrender, inviting viewers to uncover their own interpretations within the textures and forms. Through my art, I hope to share the joy and passion that fuel my creative journey and inspire others to see the beauty in the unexpected."
