Valda Napangardi Granites was born in 1974 and comes from an esteemed lineage of artists. She is the granddaughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims and Bessie Nakamarra Sims, two founding artists of the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation. Valda began her painting career in 1993, continuing the family's artistic tradition. Valda's work primarily focuses on the Mina Mina Dreaming, one of the most revered Dreamtime stories, which has also been famously depicted by fellow artists from the Mina Mina area, Judy Napangardi Watson and Maggie Napangardi Watson. Valda employs a minimalistic dot art style, using only white on black. This distinctive approach positions her work towards the modern Aboriginal art movement, blending traditional narratives with contemporary artistic techniques.
