Elizabeth VanDuine Elizabeth is a self-taught artist who channels her creativity through paper cutting. Starting with either a photograph or her imagination for inspiration she first sketches on the back of a black piece of paper. Then she meticulously cuts the design out with an x-acto knife piece by piece to reveal stunning images. Elizabeth sometimes leaves the paper cut black with a simple, cream background, but she often adds colored paper behind the paper cut to emphasize certain elements of the design. Spending the majority of her life in Pennsylvania farm country, small town Montana, and the watery mountainous Pacific Northwest, nature has always been key to her happiness and creativity. Her affinity for all living things manifests in every piece of art she creates.. "Nature's complexity, beauty, and ability to elicit emotion inform and inspire me everyday.” Elizabeth works, lives and spends as much time outside as possible, on an island a short ferry ride outside of Seattle, WA.
