Each of Lis Sam's artworks are composed of hundreds of small paper butterflies, that, when placed together, create a striking visual effect that celebrates the delicate beauty of the natural world. Sam's fascination with the intricacies of nature emerged following a visit to a butterfly conservatory in the south of France where lush blooms and graceful butterflies inspired him to create works where portraiture and nature merge.
