David Saintus was born on April 5, 1960, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He studied at the École Nationale des Casernes and the Lycée Anténor Firmin, where he first showed a natural talent for drawing. Encouraged by a mentor associated with the Haitian art movement, Saintus developed a distinctive and personal style that blends observation with imagination.Working primarily in oil, he paints poetic Haitian landscapes and seascapes filled with light, balance, and serenity. His compositions combine fine detail, gentle color transitions, and a dreamlike atmosphere that bridges realism and fantasy. Rooted in the Haitian naïve and primitive art tradition, Saintus’s work reveals a deep spiritual connection to the land and its people.Saintus has exhibited widely in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Miami, and Paris. His paintings are held in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide, admired for their harmonious color, quiet mysticism, and lyrical vision of Haitian life.
