Jason Watts is a Chicago-based artist known for his bold, graphic, and colorful paintings. His work emerges from a deep appreciation and understanding of the American landscape. Through a lens of stylized realism, Watts celebrates color, pattern, and structure—creating compositions that balance geometry and expressive energy. In his recent series, Watts explores the edge between stylized realism and abstraction. His scenes appear deconstructed and reassembled—fragments of water, fauna, and tree canopies reinterpreted as graphic forms. Particularly drawn to the meeting place of land and water, he often uses silhouettes and cutout shapes as a visual shorthand for composition and movement. His recent Fauna Series draws from time spent paddle boarding on a favorite lake, where shoreline foliage and rippling water merge. His pieces invite the viewer’s eye into the scene and then leads them along a path of flowing ribbon like patterns. He has been painting professionally since the late 90’s, with numerous group shows and several solo shows to his credit. His work is held in many private and corporate collections nationwide.
