Ingela Johansson is a storyteller in art. Inspired by the universality of emotions, Ingela’s lush surrealist work has been featured in exhibitions and art projects in multiple countries over many years. Her expressive, textured strokes and use of mixed media reflects the fluidity of humanity. By creating in nature and in combination with meditation, Ingela’s brush flows freely, often creating pieces that evoke for many a certain feeling. Born in Sweden and educated in London, Stockholm, and Borås, Sweden, she has worked as an artist since 2014. You will find her artworks at the New Zealand High Commission, the Swedish Embassy in Singapore, and in several private collections worldwide, notably in the U.S., Australia, China, New York, Norway, Paris, Italy, Indonesia, the UK, and of course, Sweden. Ingela’s exhibitions and art projects have taken place in Paris, Singapore, Venice, Hong Kong, Bali, Italy, Australia, and many cities in Sweden. Ingela was awarded one of the top 100 contemporary artists in Dubai in 2016, and received a grant from the National Swedish Arts Grants Committee in 2020.”Painting is and has always been my way of making sense of what is happening in the world. My process is to go out in nature or the cityscape around me, come back to sit in meditation, and then paint what I have experienced, inspired by the colors, emotions, and senses around me. I have been fortunate to meet, discuss and live with people from many cultures and see color in different landscapes, and that influences and changes my art. My purpose is to capture colors in emotions, which I call "art with a heart". -- Ingela JohanssonAfter living and working as an artist in Southeast Asia for six years, Ingela is now back home and based in Karlstad, Sweden. The biggest shift for her has been reconnecting to nature and experiencing the changing of the seasons. During summer months, Ingela has a studio in the orest by the lake and creates art from a small studio on a cliff overlooking Vänern. This has strongly influenced her art when it comes to color, light, emotion, and texture. In Sweden, her gallerist is Hanna Lienhart at Gallery Lienhart. She is represented by Betty Ashman in Southeast Asia. Ingela is also the founder of Zenart and runs programs in art meditation, and has written a book called,”Create to Flow”, about instilling a habit for creative well-being. Barlow Gallery is proud to feature the many visual talents of Ingela Johansson.
