Inspired by vintage patterns, antique heirlooms, and organic elements, mixed media artist Susan Thornbury creates rich layers of texture and pattern on wood panels using plaster and wax. Influenced by her background in graphic design, each piece begins with a solid structure and repetition, while her process of deconstructing the surface reveals a unique depth and character. Her work is highly tactile and invites the viewer to explore its subtle details. Susan maintains her studio practice in her hometown of Atlanta, where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and their feisty rat terrier, Bowie.
