Paul Sarkis is a contemporary painter who has spent his career paying close attention — to Congress, to the Supreme Court, to actors mid-performance on set. That discipline of looking, of waiting for the decisive moment, carries directly into his paintings. Hard edges, bold color fields, the vibrant geometry of desert light. Work that knows exactly what it wants to say and says it cleanly. Sarkis is a painter and photographer based in Palm Springs, California. His original paintings on canvas and linen draw from the California Hard Edge movement of the 1960s, blending geometric abstraction with the bold forms and rich hues of color field painting. The vibrant colors and shifting light of the desert inform his palette—contemporary in sensibility, midcentury modern in spirit. His path to the studio ran through journalism, law, and Hollywood. As a photographer, Sarkis specializes in celebrity portraiture and on-set unit stills, with work used to promote major productions, including Showtime’s Shameless, Yellowjackets, and The Affair, as well as projects from Apple TV+, HBO, NBC, ABC, CBS, and FX. Before that, he spent years as a journalist and editor covering Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court. He holds a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. from Vermont Law School.
