Mario Núñez (México, 1963) At first glance, the paintings of Mario Núñez appear primarily textural, in analogous shades or monochromatic colours. But on closer inspection, intricate mazes and map-like pathways emerge, in his intricate art form from a birds-eye view. From simple doodles to complex studies in color there is much to see in each of Núñez’ paint creations. As observed by art curator, Itala Schmelz who commented on his art “Mario Núñez's paintings are like abstruse meshes made up of irregular fibrous tissues, labyrinths of color that confuse texture and background. His paintings are inextricable entanglements formed by twists and turns, detours and drifts, intertwined routes made to get nowhere…. Without formulas or calculations, his paintings are a dance, a rhythm, a meditation, a humorous diversion of thought, a playful twisting of straight lines; tricks to the geometric order that generate visual vibration, which can be heard. Mario Núñez's pieces are like the sound that unfolds in waves, they go to the rhythm of free jazz, paying homage to sensuality and improvisation.” Núñez has participated in the Campus II. Formalismo Perceptual, le labortoire Group Show in 2018, as well as at la laboratoire fair at Zona MACO, in 2021.
