The strangeness and beauty of what appears ordinary, and the nobility and living presence of objects in space are what fascinate me as a painter. My paintings depict the beauty of the modern landscape, distilled to its essence. Light, color, and dynamic shapes and spaces are important. I pick images that are evocative, vivid, and blunt. Most are from photographs I’ve taken over the years, or from found images. What guides my choices as I work is my emotional response to each image. I work to make that image more pungent and iconic.I love man-made objects such as buildings, advertisements, cars, industrial structures, and roadways. I love skies and the lay of the land. Light and color are transformative. I love the way color combinations create a mood. I love the way light breaks down and defines structures. BIO: Margaret G. Still received her B.A. & M.F.A. from U.C.L.A., studying with William Brice, Richard Diebenkorn and others. She grew up in Manila, Philippines, has lived in Los Angeles, New York City & Memphis, and made Saugerties Village her home in 2011. The artist has exhibited at Green in Saugerties, Emerge Gallery in Saugerties, Green Kill and The Woodstock Framing Gallery in Kingston, and at WAAM in Woodstock. She received WAAM’s Mary Wilson Award in Landscape Painting in 2022. She has also shown in juried exhibits in New York State. The July/August 2019 issue of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine covers her artwork in “Margaret G. Still: Pictures From The Road” by Peter Trippi. ArtKillCatskill Magazine’s Fall 2023 issue includes an interview of Margaret and photos of her artwork. Two of her paintings are part of a Brooklyn Brownstone renovation featured in the December 26, 2023 website post of Domino magazine. Private collectors have purchased over 200 of her artworks.
